Building some Hydras

Currently working on these four rhinos I bought some time ago. Trying to convert them to hydras and some hellhounds perhaps. This is what they looked like after small clean up. Still looking pretty horrible though.

And this is where we are at the moment. Still lot to do but not looking so horrifying anymore. And they look less like rhinos.

Autoguns done

Here is some pics I promised. They look pretty rough before clean up but after it they are pretty good looking actually. They are little bit wider than original one becouse the molds were quite hard to press completely against each other and I didnt use any weight. But these will totally do. I am pretty sure you cant tell difference when I get these painted. Overall worked so well so I will be making more in future for sure!

First instant mold experiment

Tried duplicating some guns using greenstuff and instant mold. This was actually first time I used instant mold and I am not sure what the results will be becouse they are still setting but I will post some pictures when they are ready. But here is some pics what I did..

So what I used.
-package of instant mold
-one converted autogun
-greenstuff
-sharp hobby knife
-a water cup
-boiling water
(-glue gun sticks)

So I also wanted to try using glue gun sticks but they are really not made for this. :D At least not the ones I was using. Those melted way too fast and they just made a heck of a mess.

Original gun

First boiled the water and threw some instant mold to cup

After the instant mold had softened I took it of from the cup and pressed the gun to it. I should also cut my fingernails, lol.

So now the gun is placed inside the mold. Now waited the mold to stiffen.

Then I cut the mold open with a hobby knife in half way and took the gun of.

This how ready mold looks like.

Then I put a piece of greenstuff on it

Then I added the top of the mold and started applying pressure using my fingers

Then we are done. This is how the mold looks like in the end.

Made other two copies too.

You can really see that mold picks out all the details quite nicely from the model.

This is what the molds look like now. We'll have to wait few hours them to dry but I will post the results when they are ready.

Really nice stuff to use. Took me about a half hour to make all these three copies which is way much faster than if I would have made these guns from scratch. And I guess you it is possible to do this a lot faster when you get used to using this stuff. But I guess I'll be using this in future too, depends what the results will be. This bit definetly wasn't the easiest one to do but I hope these will work out.

And mean while we are waiting the results... I also made the base for the third team! As the bases are pretty much done I can move to detailing the crew.

Second team getting ready

Got pretty much done today too. Nice to get some stuff actually done again. Might start working on third team tomorrow and hopefully can start working on details, sculpting the frag vests etc.

More work on GMG teams

Hmm got first teams base finished, at least almost. Maybe still going to add some random stuff, shells etc. But its starting to look like something now. Also started working on second team by setting the GMG and shooter in place.

Autocannons?

Got this idea to make some portable grenade machinguns and use them counts as autocannons in my army. Still needs some adjusting but I like how it is looking so far.

Competition entry done

Finished painting my entry just a moment ago. I am pretty happy that I managed to paint this in a week.. :)

Painting competition entry wip

Its been long time since I have painted some IG and I think it is time to get back on the track.. I noticed painting competition in one forum and thinked "well why the heck not".. I've never actually taken part in any painting competition before and I thought this could be good way to get myself motivated again and get some models done.

So competition is "Any 40k vehicle" and deadline is apparently next sunday. So as there is no much time left I don't have time to build anything "new" and so I will go with one of my Chimera scratchbuilds. Got it primed yesterday and started painting it today. Didn't get very far today but still got plenty of time. More pictures to follow. :)

Finally some progress again

Huh.. its been a month since I updated my blog last time so my apologies for that. But now I managed to get grip of myself and got something actually done again. And I hope you like the results! My first platoon is now officially one core choice including PCS and two infantry squads! Although I am planning to add one more infantry squad and one heavy weapon squad to it. So there is lot to do still. Then my platoon will include total of 40 men + platoon commander. And then I need to paint all the tanks of course. ;)
